Man, everyone already did this. :[
Anyways, I believe the most important event to take place in August was the death of Ted Kennedy. Pretty much any death inside the government is important. Anyways, Kennedy grew up as the son of a wealthy ambassador, so he had been used to being seen by the eye of the public. Ted Kennedy had died of a tumor on August 25, but his family, including his wife, his sister, his three children, and two step children, help him live on through their memories. Robert Byrd, one of Kennedy's good friends, was shocked and saddened by the death of his best friend in the Senate. Ted Kennedy had been diagnosed with a brain tumor in May of 2008, which had eventually caught up to him and made him fatally ill. This is important to the country because Kennedy had been a part of the Senate for over four decades. He was known as a "liberal lion" in the Senate, rallying forces to fight against the Republicans. I think this is important because someone who is able to hold his position that long in the government is obviously a good choice for his occupation.

LAST CLUE?!
Mr. Quick, Aug. 25--Clue #2: Close to a lighthouse, Whalehead Club, wild ponies on the beach
As previous stated, Assateague has a lighthouse to warn ships of dangerous shoals. And I couldn't really get too deep into the subject, but I BELIEVE there is a Whalehead Club association in Assateague. I also learned years ago that Assateague is known for it's wild horses that migrate from island to island. Mr. Quick is in Assateague, final answer.

We're almost done!
Mr. Q, Aug. 24, another place: #1 Dangerous place for ships, good place for vacations, not too far from VB, short trip by beach
Well, once again, I think Mr. Quick is on/near the Eastern Shore. Simply because it ISN'T too far from Virginia Beach. There's a lot of campgrounds and areas nearby that make it nice for vacations. Now, time to be more specific. I searched for a map of the Eastern Shore and its surrounding area. In the process, I researched Chincoteague and Assateague. It turns out there's an Assateague Lighthouse that warns incoming ships of dangerous shoals, which is... a dangerous.. place for ships... Hahahah. Simply put, I believe Mr. Quick is now in Assateague.

Ms. Mervine is in Las Vegas, gosh.
August 11 place..Clue 2: Cirque de Soleil, Penn and Teller, Hoover Dam..if you dont know it by now I dont know what else to add..
Well, Cirque de Soleil is a familiar name to me from Las Vegas. I've never heard of Penn and Teller, but after searching, I found out THEY are magicians in Las Vegas. And from the movie Fools Rush In, starring Selma Hayek and Matthew Perry ;D, I remember that the Hoover Dam is very close to Las Vegas because Isabel always tossed a coin into the water for good luck whenever she came to Las Vegas. So, duh, Ms. Mervine is in Las Vegas.

It's Ms. Mervine again!
Place August 11: Clue ONE: desert, hot, strip, pyramid, in the western U.S., one of the "Vacation" movies
This one popped out at me. "Strip" made me think Las Vegas. (in the school-appropriate-land-related-way, of course). And Las Vegas is in the middle/next to a desert, in Nevada. I remember the last time I went to Las Vegas, there were many buildings with different themes. And I remember a big pyramid and a sphinx for one of the buildings. Las Vegas, Nevada is obviously in the wester U.S. Also, in movies, a lot of people take vacations there (Nah, I'm just kidding. I really don't know). So I believe that Ms. Mervine is in Las Vegas, Nevada. And if I'm right, that isn't a positive influence on your students, Ms. Mervine.

Current event.. D:
LATE.
July wasn't really that easy to pick a good event. Ever since the death of Michael Jackson, so many other famous celebrities and athletes have been dying. However, I think an important event that has gone in [late] July was the election of Sonia Sotomayor as a Supreme Court justice. I can honestly admit that I don't know much about this event nor have I put much effort into researching about it, but I know that it has and will make a lasting impact on our country. Sonia Sotomayor is a Puerto Rican American, raised in the Bronx, and was the first Latina to serve on the Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Sotomayor is also a victim of type one diabetes. Despite her health and racial conditions, she was still able to make her way as a nominee to the Supreme Court, eventually becoming a justice.

Q3, C2
Mr. Q Clue 2: One of the oldest colleges in America, the "Harvard of the South". Oldest permanent English settlement in America is nearby.
The oldest permanent English settlement is Jamestown... I think a good amount of people know that. The colleges nearby include the College of William and Mary. That college happens to be within the group of colleges labeled as "Harvards of the South". With this information, it further proves that Mr. Quick is in Jamestown. :D

Mr. Quick's... 2nd place? CLUE 1
Sorry, I'm behind.
Mr. Quick Place Clue 1: Not too far from VB; named for royalty who served, starting in 1689, also a Tribe is important
Not too far from Virginia Beach.. Hmm... Well, if it was named after royalty, that would most likely be English royalty. Especially since it was during 1689. King James was the, obviously, KING of England during the time. And Jamestown happens to have "James" in its name. Having to do with a tribe... I have no clue. Anyways, I predict that Mr. Quick is/was in Jamestown.

Quick Clue Two.
Mr. Q-Clue 2: $12 toll to get there, camping, fishing, route 13, still in Va...sorry for the delay, still figuring out how to Twitter.
Last time, I believed that Mr. Quick was on the Eastern Shore. Well, that's Virginia, so yeah... And the easiest route to the Eastern Shore is the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. And the toll price for the Bay Bridge happens to be $12, like in the clue! Camping and fishing both seem like attributes of a camp site. And after searching what campsites are on or around route 13... I came up with one familiar place. MR. QUICK IS AT THE CHERRYSTONECAMPGROUND IN CHERITON, VIRGINIA.

Almost caught me off guard.
Mr. Quick--Surrounded by water...on 2 sides, anyway. The place name is a matter of perspective, based on where you are standing.
Hmm... Well, 2 sides means not an island or peninsula, but it is near water. This made me think either the Eastern Shore of Virginia, or countries ranged from Mexico to the Central American area. Mexico... isn't really based on perspective. The other countries in Central America include Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama. But none of THOSE names aren't really based on perspective. So that leaves the Eastern Shore... I GUESS the name could vary based on where you were standing. Because what if you lived on the Eastern Shore, and you considered the mainland as the Western Shore? Hahaha, ANYWAYS...
I think Mr. Quick is at the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

3 in a row.
Place 4 Clue 2: I am worried about nuclear missiles so close by. MaCArthur was here and got fired. 쫌ㅅ 므 ㅑ ㅈ갸샤ㅜㅎ ㅜㅐㅈ? I hate KIMCHEE!
That seems to me like Korean text. At least, it looks like what I remember seeing some of my friends write. Mrs. Mervine is worried about nuclear missiles nearby, that sounds like North Korea! MacArthur was a military general who got fired during Eisenhower's presidency while he was at Korea. Kimchee is also a Korean dish that is pickled cabbage (yeah, I don't think I'd like it either). This clue further supports me idea that MRS. MERVINE IS IN SOUTH KOREA.

4th Place, 1st clue. I hope I didn't skip.
Place 4" Clue 1: I am not in the United States, I can see pagodas and a lot of industry. THis country is one of the "4 dragons" , Hangul
Well, obviously, my first thought is going to be ASIA. But Asia is the biggest continent, time to specify. Pagodas makes me think southeast Asian, as places such as India, Iran, and Iraq do not have pagodas. A lot of industry makes me think Japan. But after searching "Hangul" on Google, it says it is the alphabet of Korea. And it can't be North Korea, due to the events going on and the whole not-friends-with-America thing. I BELIEVE MRS. MERVINE IS IN SOUTH KOREA.

I'm so behind.
Just got back from the Philippines. ANYWAYS:
I think the most important event that occured during the month of June was [not to copy everyone else] the death of Michael Jackson. Honestly, he was one of the greatest influences on music on a global scale. Michael Jackson died of cardiac arrest after overdosing with, what I've heard, one thousand stress relief pills. Michael Jackson admitted these pills himself, however. Even when I was in the Philippines, many people were aware of this death. All the stores were playing Michael Jackson over the intercom, music stores were selling his albums, and people everywhere were singing Michael Jackson songs on karaoke. I think this is the most important event because Michael Jackson ushered in a new era of music. And now, people are thinking of Chris Brown as this generation's Michael Jackson due to his style of dancing while singing. But I'm sure everyone agrees that Michael Jackson could never be replaced.

One Post Following the Other
Place 3 Clue 2 Induction Day, Plebes, Annapolis
Induction day is when the newest members of the Naval Academy switch lives from ordinary civilian lives to military lives. Induction day is also the first day of the PLEBES Summer. The members are also those that are arriving in ANNAPOLIS, the CAPITAL of Maryland. I really can't think of anything else for these clues... So I believe that Mrs. Mervine is in Annapolis, Maryland.

Lack of internet makes people behind.
Place 3 Clue 1: blue and gold, in the U.S., capital location
Well, according to WIKIPEDIA, states with blue and gold as their colors include Arizona, California, Louisiana, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. And obviously, those are all in the U.S. The capital location, in my opinion, probably means location of Washington D.C., but that's between Virginia and Maryland. The closest of the above would probably be West Virginia.
Mrs. Mervine is in West Virginia?

Post from the Philippines.
Time to do my summer assignment from the Philippines!
Place 2: Clue 2: Blue and Orange, Thomas Jefferson, Cavaliers (I think you can pretty much guess this one)
Hmmm... Well, honestly, I'm not one of those people that will "pretty much guess this one." D: But that's why I have Google! First clue indicated the state of Virginia. UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA. Obviously, now. Thomas Jefferson built... well, at least the Rotunda. Cavaliers are the school mascot. And blue and orange are the colors...? Hahaha, I really don't know. The internet here is too slow to search it anymore. Well, that's what I think. University of Virginia. And if that's not considered a place, Charlottesville.

Destination Two.
What could 3rd, 3 hours, in the state of Virginia, and wineries close by mean? Well, obviously it's in Virginia, but where? From "3 hours" I assumed Mrs. Mervine meant 3 hours from Virginia Beach. That led me to northern Virginia. 3rd... What was that? Of course, it stands for 3rd congressional district! I compared a map of northern Virginia wineries and a map of the 3rd congressional district. But that left so much of a variety. But after looking at a map of the third congressional district, I saw that Richmond was a significant city with a good distance from Virginia Beach. So my guess is, Mrs. Mervine is taking a trip to our state's capital!
P.S. I wonder how confusing this'll get while I'm in the Philippines.

Second Clue is Assuring.
Well, I'm pretty sure my first guess was wrong. Anyways, I searched "president wives maiden name todd" and I came up with a result with Abraham Lincoln's wife named Mary Todd. After, I searched "states named after Abraham Lincoln." I came up with Lincoln, Illinois. Well, I used wikipedia to get my facts about Illinois. I'm pretty sure that's where she is, haha. I searched about the sources of Illinois. These included corn, soybeans, hogs, cattle, dairy products, and wheat. And also, Illinois is home of the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago White Sox. I really didn't know what "Go RED!!" meant, but maybe Mrs. Mervine is a fan of the Red Sox more...? Hahaha, I really don't know. ANYWAYS, Illinois is landlocked, being near the middle of the country, which isn't near any water except the great lakes. So my second conclusion is that Mrs. Mervine is in Lincoln, Illinois!
P.S. This is posted really late because I wasn't home at the time that the clue was posted. xD\
P.S.S. I think the "3 states down" part means that there are 3 states between Virginia and Illinois. :D

Where in the world is Mrs. Mervine?
Well, based on the clue "beef, corn, landlocked, U.S., baseball," the place she's at is obviously in the United States. "Landlocked" eliminates the possibility of coastal states. Baseball, to me, eliminates the western states because you don't really hear much about baseball coming from that area. Then I thought, "Wait.. it's not corn AND beef... it's corned beef! Duh!" So I searched "corned beef city" on Google. I got results such as "corned beef and cabbage recipe, a favorite New York food," and "Corned Beef City (A.K.A. Dagenham)," and "Sammy's Famous Corned Beef City in Pittsburgh." I eliminated the Dagenham related one, which left New York and Pittsburgh. Then I began to elaborate less on Pittsburgh and more on New York. New York is home to more than one baseball team... I think... And after searching "corned beef" on Google, I received many results on corned beef and cabbage. I also thought that New York is a common stopover place when you're traveling far away places. But New York isn't landlocked. Well that was a good waste of time. Therefore, I have come to a conclusion that Mrs. Mervine is in Pittsburgh!
